This is the third part of a series on billing system uptime, reliability, and processing performance. Read part one and part two.
TRACT Billing’s product roadmap establishes a path for upgrades and compliance based on the evolving needs of our customers. We use rolling upgrade and patch technology to ensure system availability even as we decommission and bring online updates to TRACT Billing application servers.
Transverse continuously updates TRACT Billing, and patches when necessary. There is very rarely a requirement for planned downtime associated with these releases and customers are informed in advance.
System uptime is, however, separate from system and processing performance. With TRACT Billing, all customers share the same set of applications and databases. We scale our platform based on transactional volume, so all customers benefit with the addition of more systems.
TRACT uses write and read databases and optimizes the performance of each. Reporting queries are run against the read databases while write queries are run against the write databases. We utilize data caching between the application and the database to offload some processing away from the database. This means faster processing and fewer errors.
The TRACT Billing platform supports row locks, not table locks. We designed our indexes to provide us the best read and write performance based on the specific workload. Write intensive tables may have fewer indexes than a reporting table, which might have additional indexes.
For TRACT Billing customers, this all means that your system will be online 99.9 percent of the time – though we are always striving for 100 percent availability. What’s more, our near-zero downtime TRACT Billing platform was designed precisely to process billing activities accurately and quickly.
